World Champion Sprinter coming to Rangeview

Henny Hughes having a fun romp Regarded as “The Fastest Horse in the World” in 2006, sprinter Henny Hughes USA (Hennessey/Meadow Flyer) is amazingly on his way to WA to stand at Rangeview Stud. This is no “usual” stallion arriving in our state, for Henny Hughes was a winner of three races at two including the prestigious Group 2 Saratoga Stakes (1200m), and three Group 1 seconds, including the pre-eminent Breeders Cup Juvenile (1700m).

His formidable reputation was enhanced at three years setting a new Stakes record 1:08.13 winning the Vosburgh S (Group1) 1200m, followed by another Group 1 victory in the King’s Bishop S 1400m, then earning himself the title of the Worlds Champion Sprinter of 2006. What a stunning horse and what a coup for WA!

On retirement Henny Hughes had recorded 10 starts for 6 wins (2 at G1), and 3 second placings (all at G1 level) and amassed $1,124 000 in earnings. All this makes him an extraordinary arrival and opportunity for Rangeview Stud in WA, and makes Rob and Jody really excited.

A magnificent chestnut standing 16 hands, Henny Hughes commenced stud duties in the USA in 2007, and his oldest Northern Hemisphere progeny are now just 4 Year olds. He has Sired 6 Stakeswinners, including 2 Group Three winners in Japan and the USA.

In Australia, Henny Hughes oldest progeny are 2yr olds, and he has already accumulated 7 individual winners and 4 placegetters from 16 runners, to have him sitting second on the Leading First Season Sires in Australia by Winners. Among his Australian Two year olds are Stakes placed and Moonee Valley winner Lil Red Corvette, and recent Saturday Randwick winner, Hurricane Henny.

Overall, Henny Hughes has had 170 runners for 108 winners, a winner to runner strike rate of 63 %, and he has Sired 17 black type horses worldwide. These figures should be enough to make everyone stand up and take notice!

To add to that, Henny Hughes has been well received at yearling sales across Australia in the last two years and from 60 sold, he has achieved an impressive top price of $210 000 with some “cracking types” going under the hammer.

Henny Hughes is by renowned speed source Hennessy, a proven Northern Dancer outcross, and comes as the most accomplished sprinter to ever stand in WA.

Rob and Jody are delighted to have been able to secure such a well credentialled stallion for their Stud and this story is another one of those life stories that you just don’t see coming! As part of that, we can say that negotiations always have their ebbs and flows before the ink truly dries on the paper, and this has been no different for them. But what really excites all who know quality and potential, is that Henny Hughes is actually already doing a great job at stud, getting winners all over the world and he’s only 9 years old! His reputation as a super type preceeds him, and as said, he has already shown that he is passing that quality and presence on.

Henny Hughes will compliment the Rangeview roster with the established Key Business (Sire of 13 SW’s including unbeaten Barakey), and So Secret (by Danetime), who’s first crop yearlings sold up to $100 000 at this year’s Magic Millions sales.

We can’t wait for his flight to touch down in WA and see him in the flesh.
