Three from Three for BARAKEY

in Uncategorized / by admin
July 16, 2011

Barakey coming back to scalebarakeyJason Brown with BARAKEY

The time of 57.80 for the 1000m at Belmont today turns out to be the slowest yet for Key Business son BARAKEY. But what more can you ask of this three year old when he wins in a canter? It was his third start and the first for him at a Saturday meeting. He didn’t have it all his own way to get to the front but lead he did. In the end he rarely sights another horse in his races, and he and Jason Brown just have to concentrate to get to the post in an easy fashion. His three wins have been the same -out in front doing it on his own and doing it so so easy. No doubt he will be challenged in the future and we will perhaps see a different side to this most exciting young horse. In the meantime he will have a short break and head to his next target, the Festival of Perth Racing Sprints. BARAKEY will add another dimension to our racing scene in the future and we all really look forward to it. Well done Jim, Jason, Aristos and all connected with the horse.

Very Talented BARAKEY stepping out Saturday

in Uncategorized / by admin
July 13, 2011

BARAKEY the exciting 3 year old son of Key Business steps out this Saturday 16 July at Belmont in his first test at Saturday company. His two phenomenal wins in his two race starts have scared a few off, given there were originally 13 nominations for this race with BARAKEY to jump from 10, but the field has dwindled to seven starters with the Jim Taylor trained gelding now coming out of barrier 5. Owner breeders Aristos Mihalopoulos (who is also Taylor’s foreman) and Terry Zeppos won’t mind how many go around as long as their excitement machine can continue his winning form. Those of you who love your breeding and racing know just how much pleasure you get from watching a horse you bred and own run down that straight and in front. BARAKEY being by our stallion Key Business would always spike our interest, but in this case we also have a great association with Aristos and have the dam Dance Hi as part of our broodmare herd, so watching these horses born and grow also gives us great pleasure. Perth has some very nice horses running at the moment as trainers start their assessing and planning for the bigger races later on and here’s hoping that Aristos, Terry, Jim and Jason can add to that showcasing with BARAKEY. Can’t wait!!!
Race start time is 12.54pm.

Another Promising Key Business “Uncovered”

in Uncategorized / by admin
June 15, 2011

Jim Taylor looks to have another promising Key Business gelding in his stable after the very impressive first up run and win of BARAKEY. A 3yr old gelding out of Dance Hi, BARAKEY is a full brother to WATC Belmont Oaks (L) winner IFESTIO and half brother to WATC Champion Fillies Stakes (G3) winner HI ON LOVE. So while there is plenty of class in his family tree, you still have to go out and do it yourself, and BARAKEY certainly did that!
In conditions that were not ideal, Barakey has lead just after jumping and run a fantastic 00:57:02 over the 1000m with his last 600m in 33:21. He was being eased on the line to win by 4.5 lengths from Mavrick. While he has got to the racetrack a bit later than some due to several issues with shin soreness, the wait has certainly been worth it and today would have put a warm cosy glow into all those associated with the horse. Well done Jim and jockey Jason and owners T Zeppos & A Mihalopoulos.
It will be fantastic to watch how this horse progresses, now that he is ready to shine.

Another Year and Another Sale Over

in Uncategorized / by admin
February 14, 2011

What a relief! It feels like that after every Magic Millions yearling sale, and this year was certainly no exception. There is no doubt the genuine feeling around the sale was that times are a bit tough in this industry. The breeding and selling of thoroughbreds is our lifeblood, but for many people it’s the use of discretionary dollars, and there just aren’t many around quite yet. However, enough of that, as we are in fact really happy to say that for us here at Rangeview Stud the sale was a good one. We did in the end have a couple of very nice fillies that were passed in, but overall we were very pleased with our results.

All of our own yearlings were in the first three sessions and the standouts were Lot 412 Key Business – Graceton filly selling for $100,000; Lot 227 Key Business-Time is Money colt selling for $85,000; Lot 435 Magnus –Ifestio filly selling for $80,000 and Lot 345 the Natural Blitz – Communique colt selling for $50,000.

Jody and I would like to thank our hard workers at the sales Harriet (Harry) Haddleton, Anneke Schoenmakers and Jess Manson, also Mark who stays back and “takes care of business” on the farm. Couldn’t do it without you “guys”! Finally we wish all the purchasers good luck with the yearlings and hope they break in really well for you all, and we get to enjoy watching them race in the years to come.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year greetings to all

Another year is coming to an end, and what a year! For us it was especially exciting with the birth of the first foals from our stallion SO SECRET and we are so thrilled with them. They are kind, intelligent and of good bone and great condition. We also have had excellent comments from many mare owners. Racing wise, we had black type success with our own horse Shock Value, and watched mare FOR YOUR EYES ONLY continue on with a race record and more black type. The racing progeny of mares that we own have enhanced the value of current yearlings and foals, especially with POOR JUDGE winning a Group 3 at Flemington during the spring Carnival. In addition there have been many winners at Ascot, Belmont, Pinjarra, Bunbury etc of our stallions’ progeny throughout the year, and it is especially pleasing that this happens as these are the horses that keep the industry and owners and trainers going. Jody and I would just like to say thanks very much for your support, enjoy the festive season and we will see you in the new year. Here’s to a great 2011 for all!
PS. Continue to check out our Photo Gallery and our Magic Millions yearlings will be on show here in January

Our Melbourne Spring Carnival Success

in Uncategorized / by admin
November 1, 2010

His name is POOR JUDGE (Royal Academy- Outward Display), but poor he is not after a winning the Group 3 AAMI Chatham Stakes at Flemington on Saturday over 1400m. Jockey Glenn Boss showed he and the horse were the best “judges” when he pushed POOR JUDGE through to defeat highly rated Demerit and Centennial Park. POOR JUDGE deserved this Spring Carnival win against a quality field which also included million-dollar earner Dao Dao. His form was excellent going into this race, after all, two starts ago he ran third to More Joyous in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap a race that had Gai Waterhouse in raptures which then led to More Joyous becoming second favorite for the Cox Plate. In the run against More Joyous, POOR JUDGE was never closer than three wide, hit the front in the straight, fought back when headed and then bravely just got collared near the line to run third. POOR JUDGE now has 13 wins and $520,000 in prizemoney, and prior to this Group 3 win over 1400m he had two stakes wins this year over 1200m and 1300m.
Why are we telling you all this? Well a few years ago we purchased his dam Thunder Gulch mare Outward Display. She had a very nice pedigree with grandam Madayao by Vain and great grandam by Todman. Madayao was a 2 yr old Sydney winner and ran and was placed in most of Sydney’s listed and better quality 2 yr old races. Outward Display herself won 5 races from 1200-1600m. We are now very excited about the prospects of the KEY BUSINESS –OUTWARD DISPLAY filly we have for the 2011 Magic Millions Sale and the excellent filly foal currently at foot by SO SECRET. (You can see her in our Photo Gallery)

P.S. Rangeview Sales Graduate DELTA GEE ran a courageous second to another “mare of the moment”, Lady Lynette Saturday week ago, in the Group 3 Tesio Stakes over 1600 metres at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day. Hey- not a bad week for us at the Melbourne Spring Carnival!

Black Type for Shocky

in Uncategorized / by admin
October 2, 2010

At last that magic “black type” win that all stud owners aspire to, and today was SHOCK VALUE’s day and another one for the list of our own KEY BUSINESS. The win was certainly not without some “heart in mouth” drama, commencing at the gates. Horses were nearly all loaded, and then one was backed out and there was too much activity in barrier one- gee that’s Shocky. Then Shocky was up in the gates, eventually freed and also backed out. Now a veterinary inspection. The stewards and the race caller’s phone rings! Is he in or will he be taken out? ——-Thank heavens — he’s a starter!
What followed was a perfect ride by Jason Brown just sitting off leader Mekong Miss and then tackling her in the straight to win by a neck to stablemate Famous Roman, with Railway Stakes placegetter Colour Correct a further neck away third. The time was a sizzling 1.09.81 which is just a touch outside the track record of 1.09.46 for the Belmont 1200m.
It was a high quality field in this Listed Birthday Stakes, and trainer Jim Taylor certainly signalled he’s ready for the summertime of racing with Famous Roman producing a great first up run for Jim since he has taken over the horse’s training, and SHOCK VALUE producing his 8th win from only 18 starts, with 4 of those wins over 1200m.
SHOCK VALUE by Key Business out of Graceton now has the stats of 18 starts 8 wins 3 seconds 3 thirds and $336,200 in total prizemoney. We’re happy. Great job Jim and Jason.

Cockeyed Bob- another winner for Communique

in Uncategorized / by admin
September 13, 2010

COCKEYED BOB became the third winner for mare COMMUNIQUE (Key Business-Send Your Regards), when he impressively stormed past them to win the 1000m Westspeed 3 yr old Handicap at Belmont on Saturday. He ran the final 600 in a fantastic 33.41, but that’s not totally surprising when you consider who his half sister is–none other than the $588,525 prizemoney earning FOR YOUR EYES ONLY! While COCKEYED BOB had impressively won his 950m Lark Hill trial in 57.24 on 30 August before venturing out in his first race start on Saturday, it was still a nervous time for trainer Darryn Pateman and jockey Ben Kennedy. The proof of ability is always on the racetrack not just in trials or trackwork. It seems Darryn and connections will have some very smart planning to do for their new “stable star”.
With two impressive progeny like those above, the Natural Blitz yearling colt out of Communique currently in the paddock, should prove to be one of the most sought after yearlings of the February Magic Millions Sale. But while Darryn may have “stolen” COCKEYED BOB for a mere $5,500 at the 2009 April sale, you can guess it won’t be the same next year!
